What "Reconstitution" Means
Many peptides ship as a dry, lyophilized powder to preserve stability. Reconstitution means adding a sterile diluent to dissolve the powder into a solution for controlled research handling and measurement.
Typical Supplies
- Sterile diluent as specified by the product documentation (commonly bacteriostatic water in many lab contexts)
- Sterile syringes/needles appropriate for transfer (not for administration)
- Alcohol swabs / sterile wipes
- Labels + marker (date, concentration, compound name)
- Clean workspace (ideally a sanitized area; avoid dusty or humid spots)
Step-by-Step
Prepare a clean workspace
Wash hands, sanitize the surface, and keep airflow disturbances to a minimum.
Confirm vial amount & target concentration
Read the vial label (mg) and decide how much diluent you'll add (mL) based on your research needs.
Add diluent slowly
Wipe the stopper, then introduce diluent slowly against the vial wall to reduce foaming.
Mix gently
Avoid shaking. Swirl or roll gently until fully dissolved, then label and store appropriately.
Tip: Some peptides are sensitive to agitation and heat. When in doubt, go slow and keep the solution cool.
